This year the Italian company Arduino split into two companies. Arduino LCC (owner of www.arduino.cc) and Arduino S.r.l. (owner of www.arduino.org). Arduino LCC supplies Arduino’s for the American market and Arduino S.r.l. for the European market. The introduction of the new Arduino was delayed because of this, but it is now available. The new Arduino in America is called Arduino Zero and in Europe Arduino M0. The new Arduino is developed in close coorperation with Atmel and is equipped with the SAMD21, a 32 bit ARM Cortex M0 processor. For professional developers the Arduino M0 Pro has the Atmel Embedded Debugger, which makes debugging much easier.

Sparkfun has now developed two boards which makes the application of the ESP8266 much easier. The ESP8266 Thing is a board with all the components to make a stand-alone WiFi application. The Thing even has a battery connection with charging circuit. The ESP8266 WiFi Shield allows you to add easily WiFi to your Arduino board. The shield only uses serial communication with the Arduino. There are additional connections on the shield to still be able to use the full functionality of the ESP8266.
